Brewers' Braun gets good news from MRI
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers feel as if they dodged a bullet with right fielder Ryan Braun after an MRI of his sore right side didn't reveal a significant injury.
Braun left Monday's season opener against the Colorado Rockies prior to the top of the sixth inning. He was injured while reaching out to catch a fly ball off the bat of Justin Morneau in the fourth.
"I feel better today than I did yesterday, so that's always a telltale sign," Braun said Tuesday. "A lot of times you know more the following day than the day you injure something. I woke up today feeling better than I did yesterday, got an MRI and am very encouraged by the results.
"Hopefully it's something that's only a day or two instead of what the alternative could have been. It's something I'm happy about."
Braun wouldn't get into the specifics of what the MRI showed, but said the diagnosis was "good." The 31-year-old missed 14 games last May due to a right oblique strain.
"I'll get treatment all day (Tuesday) and just continue to do what they tell me to do and hope that I get back in there as soon as possible.
"When it's in the ribcage, sometimes it's oblique, intercostal, ribcage -- they're all interconnected. If I had to guess, I would say it's more intercostal, which is the muscles in between the ribcage, than it is oblique. It's something between sore and tight, but it's not something that's a significant injury."
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is hopeful Braun will be able to return to the lineup for Wednesday night's series finale with Colorado.
"He is going to hit in the cage (Tuesday) to see if we can use him during the game," Roenicke said. "He should be back in there tomorrow."
With Braun out, Gerardo Parra will start in right field for the Brewers. Inserting Parra caused Roenicke to flip Jean Segura and Scooter Gennett in Milwaukee's lineup in order to prevent having back-to-back lefties.
