Brewers activate Gomez from DL; designate Jimenez for assignment
The Milwaukee Brewers activated center fielder Carlos Gomez from the disabled list Saturday, designating infielder Luis Jimenez for assignment to clear room on the 25-man roster.
Gomez suffered a strained right hamstring April 15 while running out a grounder in the ninth inning of Milwaukee's 4-2 loss in St. Louis. He was placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 16, leaving him eligible to be activated Friday.
In eight games this season, the All-Star center fielder is hitting .235 with a home run and six RBI. The Brewers went 3-12 without Gomez, who is back in the leadoff spot for Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
By designating Jimenez for assignment, the Brewers have five outfielders on the roster in Gomez, Ryan Braun, Khris Davis, Gerardo Parra and Logan Schafer.
Jimenez went had just one hit in 15 at-bats for the Brewers, playing sparingly over Milwaukee's first 23 games of the season. Claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels last October, the 27-year-old quickly fell behind Hector Gomez and Elian Herrera on the infield depth chart.
