Braves' Day 3 picks include Byrd, Franco
The third and final day of the draft included a couple of familiar names picked the Braves.
Atlanta took Grayson Byrd, an LSU recruit out of King's Ridge Christian School (Ga.) Saturday in the 39th round. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound shortstop is in the son of former Braves pitcher and current FOX Sports South analyst Paul Byrd.
In the 38th round, the Braves picked Brown second baseman J.J. Franco, the son of former closer John Franco, who is fourth on the all-time saves list with 424.
The day's selections for the Braves included 14 pitchers, beginning in the 11th round with Luis Gamez, a right-handed pitcher from Cienega High School.
They followed with second baseman Dorrian Patrick from Kingston High School (New York) in the 12th; Shelton State Community College (Ala.) right-hander Caleb Beech in the 13th; center fielder Joseph Daris in the 14th from Azusa Pacific University (Calif.); California Baptist University righty Caleb Dirks in the 15th; 16th-round pick Brandon Barker, a right-handed pitcher, from Mercer; righty Perritt Ashton from Liberty University in the 17th; Jacob Webb, a righty from Tabor College in the 18th; shortstop Codey McElroy of Cameron University in the 19th; Wigberto Nevarez, catcher, from Lubbock Christian in the 20th round; Providence Catholic (Ill.)
