Braves claim OF Perez off waivers, cancel Sunday caravan event
ATLANTA -- The Braves made news on two unrelated fronts on Friday, claiming former Yankees outfielder Eury Perez off waivers and also canceling the team's Country Caravan stops in Marietta, Ga. and Columbia, S.C. for Sunday.
The 24-year-old Perez, who batted .311 with 20 steals last season for Triple-A Syracuse, also appeared in four MLB games with the Yankees.
Over an eight-year span in the minors (2007-14 with the Nationals and Yankees), Perez registered a .305 batting average, .360 on-base percentage, 25 triples and 268 steals. From a power perspective, the 6-foot, 190-pounder had a personal breakthrough with seven homers.
Regarding the postponed Braves Country Caravan sessions, the team is pursuing other avenues for rescheduling the events.
The Braves will launch their full-squad workouts for spring training on Feb. 25 (Walt Disney World complex in Kissimmee, Fla.). Pitchers and catchers report five days prior to that.
