Last week at spring training I caught up with Jason Heyward in the Braves clubhouse for a few short minutes. There are a lot of demands on Heyward's time this spring, being one of the hottest baseball stories in both Atlanta and the nation. Braves Media Relations Director Brad Hainje told me that he has received over 50 requests in the last three weeks from various media outlets wishing to interview Heyward, either for a local or national publication or for a TV or radio sports show. Needless to say not all of these requests can be filled, so I was lucky to snag a few minutes of the super-prospect's time.
Jason is a larger than life individual -- already, at just 20 years of age. When I shook hands to introduce myself, my averaged sized hand was dwarfed by the huge hand of Heyward. He is such an imposing figure, but around the clubhouse he's still a rookie and one of the guys, and none of the players treat him with any sort of idol worship.
I hope you enjoy this brief interview with the Braves' young phenom, and I hope you learn something about him that you didn't already know.
