Braun looks to continue success at Wrigley Field

Ryan Braun has feasted on Chicago Cubs pitchers over the years, especially at Wrigley Field.

The Brewers' left fielder will look to continue that trend as Milwaukee (8-11) travels to Chicago (14-5) for a three-game series beginning Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old has batted .339 with 23 home runs and 92 RBI in 466 career at-bats against the Cubs. He's been especially good at Wrigley Field, hitting .356 there with nine home runs and 47 RBI in 239 at-bats.

His .356 batting average at Wrigley is the fourth highest since 1916 for anyone with over 200 plate appearances. Hall of Famer Paul Waner, former MVP Joe Torre and two-time All-Star Gregg Jefferies are in front of him on that list.

Braun isn't the only Brewers hitter to have found success against the Cubs. Aaron Hill has a .330 batting average (29-88), two home runs and 16 RBI against them, and Alex Presley is 15-of-46 (.326). Chris Carter has seven hits, including a home run, in 13 at-bats against the Cubs.

Several Milwaukee pitchers have fared well, too. Reliever Chris Capuano is 10-3 against Chicago with a 3.12 ERA in 92 1/3 innings. Carlos Torres has a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings against the Cubs, and Zach Davies, Thursday's probable starter, pitched six scoreless innings against them this past September.

Tuesday's starter, Jimmy Nelson, is 0-3 with a 3.60 ERA in five starts against the Cubs. Wednesday's starter, Taylor Jungmann, is 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA in two starts against them.

Chicago's probable starters have fared well against the Brewers. Tuesday's starter, Kyle Hendricks, is 4-1 with a 1.45 ERA in six starts against Milwaukee. Wednesday's starter, Jake Arrieta, is 4-3 with a 2.35 ERA in nine starts against Milwaukee, and Thursday's starter, John Lackey, is 5-1 with a 3.11 ERA in eight starts against the Brewers.

Milwaukee will also have to deal with a Chicago Cubs offense that leads Major League Baseball in runs scored and ranks in the top 10 in on-base percentage, hits, home runs and slugging percentage. The Cubs scored 38 runs in their series this past weekend against Cincinnati, the most they've scored in a four-game stand since 2003.

Chicago ranks second in team on-base percentage this season at .357, though the team's batting average, .256, ranks 11th. Dexter Fowler is leading the Cubs' offense with a .385 batting average and a .506 on-base percentage, both of which rank among the top two in the majors.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo leads the team with eight home runs and 21 RBI. He's batting just .203 but has a .360 on-base percentage thanks to 14 walks.

Star third baseman Kris Bryant is batting .278 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 19 games. Outfielder Jason Heyward, who signed with the Cubs this past offseason as a free agent, is batting .260 with 12 RBI in 19 games.

Braun leads the Brewers this season with a .364 batting average and .432 on-base percentage. He and Carter are tied for the team lead in home runs (five) and RBI (15).

Right fielder Domingo Santana is batting .275 with two home runs and nine RBI, though he leads the team with 23 strikeouts. Second baseman Scooter Gennett is batting .258 with four home runs.
