Brandon Marshall knocks Lions, city of Detroit
A day after his team lost to the Detroit Lions for the second time this season, Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall reverted to the "little brother" tag to describe the first-place NFC North division rivals.
Marshall then went a step further during an appearance on an ESPN radio station in Chicago, saying of Detroit, "Fix your financial problems and all of that, you know."
At least one Lions' player didn't appreciate the cheap shot at the city.
"Did anyone else think Brandon Marshall's comments regarding the city of Detroit (were) totally uncalled for?" safety Glover Quin said in the first of two tweets related to the issue.
Quin then added, "The talk about the team is whatever!! Don't bring the city into it and people livelihoods!! C'mon man!!"
Marshall also questioned some of the Lions' hits on his team's quarterbacks in Sunday's game, presumably including Nick Fairley's unnecessary-roughness penalty against Josh McCown late in the fourth quarter.
Marshall called the Lions' overall tactics defensively as "borderline illegal."
He also indicated he's looking forward to getting another chance at Detroit in the playoffs.
"I guarantee it's not gonna go down like it did the first two games," Marshall said.
The Lions pulled out a 21-19 victory in Chicago when the Bears' last-minute two-point conversion failed. That came six weeks after Detroit rolled to a 40-32 win at home in the season's first meeting between the long-time rivals.
The Lions, looking for their first division title in two decades, are now 6-3 and have a one-game lead over the injury-plagued Bears with seven games remaining.
