Boot thief strikes Vancouver Whitecaps training facility

Published Mar. 30, 2016 3:45 p.m. ET

There was something afoot at Vancouver Whitecaps' training facility over the weekend.

The players got back to their locker room at the University of British Columbia only to find 32 pairs of customized cleats missing.

These are not just your average, everyday boots either. Some of the missing pairs had special names or other messages on them.

Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson mentioned the theft in a post-practice media scrum and was not amused with the discovery.

"Just an example of what I have to deal with: overnight we had 32 pairs of boots stolen," Robinson told CBC. "Someone's managed to break in and steal my players' boots, which is not acceptable, not good enough ... I've got players without boots that have got their children's names on them that mean a lot to them."

Jordan Harvey posted a picture of a very empty drawer asking his followers to check local rec leagues for shiny new cleats and hinted this was the thrid time some custom boots had gone missing.

Robinson hopes the culprit has a change of heart and returns the gear.

"If anyone knows, please give me a call ... If you want boots, I'll buy you boots, but please bring these special boots that these players wear back to me. Please."

Vancouver host the L.A. Galaxy this Saturday, and hopefully they'll have some footwear ready to go by then.
