Desperate for a win, Columbus fell behind early and never reached the scoreboard in a 2-0 loss to the Red Wings tonight at Nationwide Arena.

Detroit goaltender Joey MacDonald (4-4-1) made 37 saves and recorded the second shutout of his four-year career. The Red Wings (43-20-8) remain in second place in the Western Conference while the Blue Jackets (32-28-10) continue their free fall, losing 9-of-10 games as they are now nine points back of Calgary for the final playoff spot with just 12 matchups remaining.
