VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Kristian Huselius, Rostislav Klesla and Nikita Filatov scored over a 3:44 span early in the second period to chase star Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo and lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-3 win over the Canucks on Monday night.
Antoine Vermette and Fedor Tyutin also scored, Rick Nash had three assists, and Steve Mason made 40 saves as Columbus opened the season with consecutive wins for the first time in franchise history.
Christian Ehrhoff responded shortly after the Columbus goal outburst, and Willie Mitchell pulled the Canucks within a goal 7:37 into the third period. But Mason made a big glove save off Mikael Samuelsson and another great stop on Alexandre Burrows just before Tyutin made it 5-3 on the power play.
Henrik Sedin also scored for the Canucks, who have lost their first three games of the season for the first time since 2001 despite averaging 40 shots a game.
Huselius broke a tie 2:07 into the second period, and Klesla and Filatov broke the game open and ended Luongo's night early with goals 22 seconds apart. Huselius used Nash as a decoy off the rush and blew a wrist shot past Luongo s glove, Klesla scored on a wrist shot through traffic at 5:29, and Filatov finished a 3-on-2 with a shot through Luongo s legs on the next shift.
That was it for the Canucks captain, who came in with an uncharacteristic .857 save percentage, and left after giving up four goals on just 12 shots.
Sedin opened the scoring with 4:31 left in the first period, jamming a loose puck into a mostly empty net after Mason lost the rebound of Alex Burrow's shot and shuffled the wrong way trying. Backup goalie Andrew Raycroft stopped 11 of 12 in his surprise regular-season debut and almost got his first win as the Canucks rallied after Luongo as pulled.
Ehrhoff, acquired from San Jose in the offseason, scored his first goal in a Vancouver uniform on a screened point shot, and Mitchell scored his first in 42 games on a similar point shot through traffic that went off the post and in.
Columbus forward Jared Boll left the game early in the first period after being slammed face-first into the boards, first by Rick Rypien and then by Darcy Hordichuk, who received a roughing penalty on the play.
