The Braves have called up outfielder Gregor Blanco from Triple-A Gwinnett and designated Brent Clevlen for assignment.
Blanco was sent down last week when Nate McLouth was activated. When McLouth was sent back to Gwinnett four days later, Blanco could not rejoin the Atlanta roster. A player must stay in the minor leagues 10 days when optioned out.
Blanco has hit .310 in Atlanta in 58 at bats with three RBI and a stolen base. He played much better than he had played last season with the Braves when he hit only .186 in 43 at bats.
This season in Gwinnett Blanco hit .286 with a home run and 11 RBI and nine stolen bases. His OBP in Gwinnett was .382. Last year Blanco hit .228 in Triple-A.
Clevlen was 1-4 in four games with the Braves. He was a pinch-runner on Thursday in Washington.
