There weren't any stellar individual performances to speak of during Day Two of the Nike Extravaganza. That was until Jordan McLaughlin and Etiwanda hit the floor.
In a game that had been controlled by St. John Bosco essentially from the opening tip, McLaughlin decided he was going to put the Eagles on his back. He knocked down a 30-foot three pointer late in the fourth quarter to give Etiwanda a lead. After that lead was relinquished, the ball was in McLauglin's hands again and he connected on a floater in the the lane with 3.7 seconds left to force overtime.
In the extra period, it was all McLaughlin to lead Etiwanda to a 62-53 overtime win over the Braves. He finished with 32 points in the game to go along with three rebounds and three assists. His 32 points were tied for most on the day. Here are the Top Performers of Day 2 of the Nike Extravaganza, including McLaughlin:
Elijah Stewart, G Westchester -- His first half alone would have been good enough for the second highest point total of the day. The Loyola Marymount signee scored 22 points in the game's first 24 minutes on 9-of-11 field goals including 4-of-5 from deep. He finished the game with 32 points which is tied with McLaughlin for the most on the day.
Chase Jeter, F/C Las Vegas Bishop Gorman -- Perhaps his most impressive play on the day was a two-handed dunk attempt that he didn't even connect on. Had he, it would have been a finalist for No. 1. Still, that didn't deter the five-star junior from finishing with a double-double -- 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Gaels to a 68-53 win over JSerra.
Miles Reynolds, PG Illinois Whitney Young -- The 6'1" University of St. Louis-bound senior outscored all of the offense for Whitney Young to start. He scored the team's first 16 points and outscored Mater Dei 16-15 by himself in the first quarter. It took just over an entire quarter for any of his teammates to get on the scoreboard. Reynolds finished with 21 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc in the Dolphins 69-57 loss to Mater Dei.
Stanley Johnson, F Mater Dei -- It's his house, but in the first half he must have not felt comfortable. It could have been the post-10 p.m. start. Then again, it could've been the shoes. After a nine-point first half on 5-of-9 shooting, he came out of the locker room for the second half in a different pair of kicks and scored 11 in the third quarter alone. Johnson's 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and free throws late help the Monarchs run away from Whitney Young, 69-57.
Jahlil Okafor, C Illinois Whitney Young -- It appeared the Duke-bound McDonald's All-American was double teamed from the moment he got off of the bus. He finished with just four points in the first half. His third quarter, however, was something to see. He found space and took advantage, including making perhaps the prettiest reverse layup you'll ever see from someone 6'10". Okafor finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in the Dolphins' 69-57 loss.
Jordan McLaughlin, PG Etiwanda -- The USC signee may have had the best footwear of any player on the court. He didn't just look the part, he played it as well. McLaughlin single handedly took over the game for the Eagles in their 62-53 overtime win over St. John Bosco.
