PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) A Rhode Island youth football team that was kicked out of its league after the coach put a man into a game against 13- and 14-year-old players can apply to be reinstated.
The Rhode Island Preteen Football League has overturned its ban on the Capital City Buccaneers. The league's vice president Nelson Pedro tells WLNE-TV the board's decision this week was in the best interest of the remaining players on the team.
The Providence varsity team was removed from the league last month after team founder Alexandra Diaz said the coach let a young man believed to be at least 18 take part in several plays before getting kicked out.
Diaz says the coach took full responsibility and was fired.
