Badgers struggle to score as Penn State sweeps series
Freshman Luke Kunin scored a second-period goal, but the Wisconsin men's hockey team allowed two third-period goals in a 4-1 loss to Penn State on Saturday in State College, Pennsylvania.
Kunin had a team-high 11 shots for the Badgers (4-10-6, 1-5-2-1 Big Ten), and goalie Matt Jurusik saved 37 of 41 shots, as the Nittany Lions (15-4-3, 5-1-0-0 Big Ten) swept the two-game series.
Penn State led 2-0 after the first period, despite the Wisconsin outshooting the team 13-8. Kunin scored a short-handed goal in the second period, assisted by Eddie Wittchow, cutting the lead to one.
Penn State's Eric Scheid gave the Nittany Lions a 3-1 lead on a five-on-three 7:08 into the third period. He added a short-handed goal with less than 2:30 remaining.
Scheid led Penn State with three points, and goalie Eamon McAdam saved 39 of 40 shots.
Wisconsin will host Minnesota next Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center.
