Friday night in Anchorage, Alaska, No. 10 Wisconsin began its innaugural appearance in the Kendall Hockey Classic and its 2014-15 season with a 1-0 loss to the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. It was the Badgers' first ever loss to the Nanooks after seven straight wins -- and their first visit to Anchorage as a Big Ten team.

In the first period, both teams had plenty of looks but no goals, with the Nanooks outshooting the Badgers 9-5.

The competition heated up in the second period with missed chances on the man advantage for both teams until Nanooks defenseman Colton Parayko -- a third-round NHL draft pick of St. Louis in 2012 -- put the first tally on the scoreboard, knocking in a power-play goal with assists from Marcus Basara and Nolan Kaiser.

The Badgers couldn't keep up with the fast-skating Nanooks, who got off 31 shots to the Badgers' 14. Wisconsin pulled goaltender Landon Peterson for the final 1:21 but the Badgers offense couldn't come up with a goal to prevent the shutout.
