The U.S. Under-18 team finished strong, however, scoring early and often in the night's final period.

"The lesson of the game was that even though we thought we were prepared, we didn't build our fire before the game," Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves said in a statement. "We tried to scramble throughout the course of the game it get ourselves ready. We didn't make plays."

The visiting youngsters began their final-period flourish at 3:39 of the third, when Matthew Tkachuck scored to knot things at 1-all. Auston Matthews later added a pair of third-period goals, including the final tally of the game at the 18:59 mark.
