Badgers hockey endures narrow defeat vs. MSU

Michigan State used a late surge to push past the Wisconsin men's hockey squad on Friday night, as the Spartans won, 4-3.

Michigan State got the game-winning goal from Justin Hoomaian at the 16:47 mark of the third period.

The Spartans were paced by senior netminder Jake Hildebrand's 30 saves.

Wisconsin (3-7-5 overall, 0-2-1-0 Big Ten) got 28 saves from freshman Matt Jurusik.

"We didn't play our A game, but we didn't play terrible," said Wisconsin senior Eddie Wittchow. "We had our chances, but in a game like that it can come down to bounces."

Wisconsin has a short turnaround and will go for a series split with the Spartans on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m.
