CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 23rd-ranked Arizona softball team (28-20, 5-11 Pac-12) stranded 10 runners as Shelby Babcock was outdueled by Tina Andreana in a 2-1 Oregon State (28-17, 5-11 Pac-12) victory.

Arizona appeared to be poised to tie the game in the top of the seventh when Lauren Young ripped a two-out single up the middle with two on. But Oregon State second baseman Ya Garcia dove to her right to knock down the single and tossed the ball to catcher Ally Kutz to try to cut down Chelsea Suitos, attempting to score from second. Home-plate umpire Calvin Walker ruled that the tag came in time, ending the game.

The Wildcats had plenty of opportunities in a game which they registered just five hits. In both the fifth and sixth innings, the Cats had runners at third with less than two out and could not score. Arizona left nine runners on base in the final four innings after having just one base runner in the first three frames.

Babcock (15-8) allowed just one earned run in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks.
Andreana (7-5) pitched out of trouble all game and allowed just one run on five hits. The Oregon State hurler struck out and walked five.
The Beavers struck first in the second after they loaded the bases with no one out. A double, a hit batter and an error followed by a sacrifice fly broke the scoreless tie.

Arizona, held without a hit through the first three innings, tied the score in the fourth. Chelsea Suitos drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on Kelsey Rodriguez’s sac bunt and scored on Chelsea Goodacre’s single up the middle. Goodacre’s hit was Arizona’s first of the game and gave her 52 RBI, tying her for the Pac-12 lead.

Oregon State added to its lead in the fifth inning when Ally Kutz led the inning off with a double and scored on Ashley Sanchez’s RBI double.
