Axford marvels over Ohio Cup while rocking Heat Miser hairdo
Reliever John Axford is new to the in-state rivalry between the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds, but he's quickly learning about some of its ins and outs.
Axford was unaware of the Ohio Cup trophy until FOX Sports Ohio's Katie Witham filled him in on the details. Suddenly, Axford was full of wonder, with the excitement of a young boy on Christmas morning.
Here's the clip from Tuesday night's Indians broadcast:
While we're not sure whether it's ever been done, it definitely appears you could drink out of the Ohio Cup, if you were so inclined.
And who can blame Axford for getting excited? Trophies are cool and iconic, especially ones that are cups. No sports trophy matches the mystique of that of Lord Stanley.

On the subject of the hair, Matt Underwood nailed it -- Christmas in July just passed, but Axford certainly channeled the Heat Miser from the '70s classic "The Year Without A Santa Claus."
Axford was not giving the Reds any gifts Tuesday as he helped the Indians inch toward the cup, earning a save in the first game of the series.
