Axford: 'I put my wife into contractions'
Axford allowed another two runs before exiting the ninth inning after two outs, as a strikeout gone awry to Starlin Castro and an Alfonso Soriano single scored two more runs before the closer was pulled in favor of Tim Dillard.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said after the game that Axford's command was the problem despite throwing his curveball better than in his last outing.
All would be forgiven, though, with a Corey Hart two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth that sent the game to extra innings. And in the 13th, another hit from Hart scored the winning run with the bases loaded. Milwaukee won, 8-7.
Axford left Miller Park without adding the save, but he'll have an even more important addition to talk about soon.
