Australia in control as Sri Lanka reach 116-4 at lunch day 3

PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) Australia seized control of the first test, reducing Sri Lanka to 116-4 at lunch on the third day.

Sri Lanka resumed Thursday at 6-1 and paceman Mitchell Starc and spinners Steve O'Keefe and Nathan Lyon picked up a wicket each to contain the hosts, who held a 30-run lead with six wickets in hand.

No. 4 batsman Kusal Mendis scored the bulk of runs for Sri Lanka and remained unbeaten on 86, including 13 boundaries.

Dimuth Karunaratne (0), Kaushal Silva (7) and Angelo Mathews (9) were dismissed in the session.

Starc returned 2-28 in the session and troubled the Sri Lanka top order.

Sri Lanka made 117 in its first innings and Australia replied with 203.
