ASU volleyball ranked 18th; Arellano wins Pac-12 honor
The Arizona State volleyball team, fresh off fresh off a win over the defending NCAA champion and second-ranked Texas and off to an 8-1 start, has earned a No.18 ranking in this week's AVCA national poll.
To add to the successful weekend, Bianca Arellano was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following her performances in the Illini Classic. The sophomore recorded 13 digs and 32 assists for her fourth double-double performance in the 3-0 sweep of the Longhorns. Arellano also added a season-high six kills in the match win.
Arellano also posted 40 assists and 20 digs in the five-set setback to host Illinois. Arellano average 4.90 digs and 9.18 assists per set, as ASU went 3-1 in the Illini Classic this past weekend.
This is the second week in a row that a Sun Devils has won Pac-12 Player of the Week honors, following Macey Gardner's selection as Offensive Player of the Week.
The AVCA ranking is the first for the program since Nov. 4, 2002.
After three consecutive weekends on the road, the Sun Devils are at home this week for the Arizona State Marriott Invitational. The Sun Devils will play Cal Poly on Friday night, followed by matches with Alabama State and Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday. Admission is free.
