ASU softball caps Kajikawa Classic with win

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State softball team improved to 5-2 on the year Sunday, concluding the Kajikawa Classic with an 8-0 victory over Cal Poly in five innings.
Hillary Bach earned the win and finished the opening weekend with a 3-0 record, 19.1 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. During her three shutouts, she combined to hold opposing batters to a .123 batting average.
The Devils jumped on top early by tallying a trio of runs in the bottom of the first. ASU loaded the bases on three walks, forcing the Mustangs to lift starter Chloe Wurst and bring in Rebecca Patton. Haley Steele then reached on a fielder's choice to score Elizabeth Caporuscio, Bailey Wigness hit an infield single to plate Sam Parlich and Christina Zambrana coming home during a Katelyn Boyd at-bat to make it 3-0.
In the third inning, three straight ASU singles set up a bases-loaded situation for Sam Parlich, who then reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Annie Lockwood to score. Steele followed with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Caporuscio from third, and aWigness single up the middle scored Parlich to make it 6-0.
Taylor Haro’s two-run single to center plated the final two runs, as Wigness and Zambrana came home to push the lead to 8-0.
Wigness finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and one run scored, while five ASU players collected at least one hit on the day. Bach struck out three in the two-hit outing.
