Tuesday's second day of the MLB first-year player draft saw the Diamondbacks select five pitchers, four outfielders, three infielders and two catchers. The D-backs selected Lafayette, La., catcher Stryker Trahan with their first-round pick on Monday.

“We placed an emphasis on drafting quality position players early in this year’s draft and we accomplished just that over the first two days while also adding some great arms,” scouting director Ray Montgomery said. “I’m very proud of the job our scouts did in finding a great mix of prospects who are well-rounded and prepared to compete professionally for the D-backs.”

Tuesday's selections were highlighted by second-rounder Jose Munoz, an infielder from Los Altos, Calif., who hit .419 with five home runs, five triples and nine doubles during his senior season; and third-rounder Jake Barrett, a right-handed relief pitcher who had 11 saves and struck out 36 in 33 innings for Arizona State.

Other notables include catcher Ronnie Freeman (fifth round), who was ranked by Baseball America as the 10th-best catching prospect, and outfielder Daniel Poma (10th round), the first Hofstra player to be named Colonial Association Player of the Year.

The draft concludes tomorrow with rounds 16-40.
