ASU baseball routed by Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The 18th-ranked Arizona State baseball team could not recover from a seven-run inning and fell to Long Beach State 11-0 on Friday night at Blair Field.

ASU sophomore starter Ryan Burr (0-1) allowed just one base runner through the first two innings but walked the first three batters he faced in the bottom of the third to load the bases with no outs. The Dirtbags (1-4) took advantage and broke open the scoreless tie with seven runs on three hits and a fielding error.

The Sun Devils (2-3) matched Long Beach State with seven hits in the game, including two each from sophomore designated hitter R.J. Ybarra and junior right fielder Trever Allen.

Senior right-hander Zak Miller tossed three consecutive scoreless innings before surrendering three runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single and a two-run homer to right field.

Burr took his first loss as a starter, allowing six runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three in 2 1/3 innings.

Long Beach State left-hander Nick Sabo (1-1) set a career high with eight strikeouts in eight innings to earn his first win of the season.
