Ashanti takes in first NASCAR experience Saturday in Charlotte
Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, producer and actress Ashanti is performing the national anthem for Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and has been enjoying her first NASCAR experience.
Before hitting the stage to sing the anthem during pre-race activities, Ashanti took a lap around the 1.5-mile track in the pace car with Michael Waltrip Racing's Clint Bowyer.
"It's been awesome," said Ashanti. "I actually like to drive really fast. I took the pace car ride around the track with Clint, who is awesome. We were going really fast and I told him, 'Slow down, I think I'm going to get arm burn' because we were so close to the yellow wall. Other than that it was really cool. I got a tiny bit scared, but I told him next time I wanted to drive."
Aside from the pace car ride, Ashanti hit the NASCAR garage and pit road, learning the ins and outs of the sport.
