Army Captain surprises daughter at Wisconsin football game

There were plenty of impressive runs at Camp Randall on Saturday as James White and Melvin Gordon combined to rush for 292 yards for the Badgers in a 41-10 rout of Purdue.

The most important run of the day, though, had nothing to do with football.  

The University of Wisconsin was honoring 13-year-old Bella Lund on the field as the recipient of the military family of the game after having been away from her mom Captain Jane Renee Lund since early April. Lund, a Madison resident and Wisconsin graduate, was scheduled to return home from Afghanistan in October after serving her six-month tour as a veterinarian for the U.S. Army Reserves.

As Bella turned around to head back to the endzone, there was her mom, surprising her a few weeks early. The two sprinted towards each other and embraced in a touching moment for all who witnessed it.

That run into her mother’s arms will best any run the 80,000 fans at Camp Randall saw or will see all season.
