TUCSON, Ariz. -- University of Arizona junior guard Nick Johnson was the leading vote-getter on the second team on Monday when the Associated Press announced its 2014 college basketball All-Americans.
Johnson, who has also been named a first-team All-American by the Sporting News, the NABC and the USBWA, led Arizona in scoring (16.3) and ranked second on the team in assists (2.8) and steals (1.1). He shot 43.2 percent from the floor and 78.1 percent from the free throw line while averaging 4.1 rebounds and posting a 1.67 assist-to-turnover ratio to help the Wildcats advance to the Elite Eight and finish with a 33-5 record.
Johnson was named Pac-12 Player of the Year and was also named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He is a finalist for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy and Robertson Trophy.
The first team All-Americans are Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott (a unanimous choice of the 65 voters), Duke freshman forward Jabari Parker, Louisville senior guard Russ Smith, Connecticut senior guard Shabazz Napier and Cincinnati senior guard Sean Kilpatrick.
Joining Johnson on the second team were Andrew Wiggins of Kansas, Nik Stauskas of Michigan, Melvin Ejim of Iowa State and T.J. Warren of North Carolina State.
