Arizona women's season ends with loss to UCLA in Pac-12 Tournament
SEATTLE -- The Wildcats had three players score in double-figures, but it wasn't enough, as 11th-seeded Arizona fell to sixth-seeded UCLA, 80-62, Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament inside KeyArena.
Senior guard Candice Warthen led the way in her final game as an Arizona Wildcat, as she scored a team-high 12 points and dished out a team-best equaling three assists in 34 minutes of action.
Sophomore forward Breanna Workman recorded her fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season, as she poured in 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, recorded a block, and a steal, while knocking down 7-of-8 shots from the free throw line.
Freshman guard JaLea Bennett notched her second consecutive double-figure scoring game, as she recorded 10 points and a team-high tying three assists.
Arizona outrebounded UCLA 40-33 and knocked down 19-of-25 shots from the charity stripe for 76 percent, marking the 15th time the Cats have shot 70 percent or better from the free throw line this season.
The Wildcats hung with the Bruins for most of the contest, never trailing by more than nine points until the 3:24 mark of the first half, before the Bruins eventually took a 37-24 lead into halftime. Fourteen of Arizona's 24 first half points came in the paint.
The Bruins eventually built their lead as high as 47-28 points with 16:21 left to play, but the Wildcats wouldn't go down easily.
Arizona went on 13-4 scoring run to make it just a 51-41 deficit with 10:40 remaining after LaBrittney Jones connected on a jumper in the lane.
Warthen then connected a on a 3-pointer with 3:49 left to play to make it a 65-54 ballgame, but that's as close as Arizona would come.
