Arizona State tops Houston Baptist in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)
-- Trent Lockett scored 18 points Thursday night as Arizona State fought off Houston Baptist 73-55 in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout.

The Sun Devils will take on Weber State Friday at 10 p.m. (Arizona time) in the semifinals. The game will be televised by FOX Sports Arizona.

Kyle Cain had a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds for the Sun Devils (2-1). Keala King scored 13 and Rihards Kuksiks 12.

Andrew Gonzalez led the Huskies (0-4) with 26 points, and Miles Dixon scored 14.

Houston Baptist scored the first three points, but Lockett scored six points on a 12-0 run that put the Sun Devils ahead to stay.

Arizona State led 32-19 at intermission, but the Huskies made a game of it in the second half. They closed within 49-44 on two Gonzalez free throws with 9:58 left before the Sun Devils regrouped. Arizona State ran off 13 unanswered points to make it 72-53 with 2:34 left.

The Sun Devils dominated the boards 49-29 and outshot Houston Baptist 43.8 percent to 37.7.
