Arizona soccer shuts out Oregon State

CORVALIS, Ore. -- The Arizona women’s soccer topped Oregon State 2-0 for its first Pac-12 victory of the season Friday at Lorenz Field in Corvalis, Ore.

Arizona (6-4-3) senior Jazmin Ponce recorded her eighth goal of the season in the 48th minute to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller recorded the second and final goal for Arizona in the 83rd minute on a rebound off the Oregon State goalkeeper.

The Wildcats outshot the Beavers 16-7, with Ponce leading the team with seven, including four on goal.

“I am very happy for our players,” Arizona coach Tony Amato said. “They have worked hard to improve, learned over the past few weeks and have remained confident in their ability. As a result, they performed at a high level today and got a well-deserved win.”

Oregon State (2-9-2) recorded a total of seven shots, with Jenna Richardson leading the team with three, including two on goal. Goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme recorded a total of seven saves on the 16 shots she faced for the Beavers.

In the Arizona net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded three saves on the seven shots she faced.
