If Tigers fans didn't fully appreciate Justin Verlander after last night, I hope they are watching the Cardinals-Nationals game. When JV got a lead against Oakland, there was never a sense that he was going to give it up. The Nats gave Gio Gonzalez a 6-0 lead after three innings tonight, and he's already given half of it back within two innings. He's already at 99 pitches, so Washington fans have a long night of bullpen watching waiting for them.
Oh, and Bryce Harper? The 19-year-old that everyone's been saying is over his head in the postseason? He came into tonight hitting .056 in the ALDS - 1-for-18. Tonight, in Washington's biggest baseball game since the 1933 World Series, he had a triple and a homer in his first two at-bats.
He might want to get a couple more hits - the Cardinals aren't going away.
