A peaceful offseason for the Detroit Lions has turned for the worse over the last month with two players being arrested.
The latest incident involved defensive end Ronnell Lewis, a flop last season as a rookie after being a fourth-round draft pick.
Lewis had to be Tasered twice after allegedly pushing another man to the ground and then punching him, right in front of police officers Saturday morning outside of a bar in Norman, Okla., according to a police report.
Lewis, who attended the University of Oklahoma, was arrested on three misdemeanors for disturbing the peace, public intoxication and interference with the official process.
The Lions released a statement that read: “We are aware of the incident involving Ronnell Lewis. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Lewis played in only eight games last season, mostly on special teams. He was inactive for the final seven weeks.
Less than a month ago, Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested in his hometown of Middletown, Conn., following a domestic-assault altercation.
These two recent incidents come after Lions players accounted for seven arrests last off-season, leading to the release of cornerback Aaron Berry and offensive lineman Johnny Culbreath.
