Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson OK after getting hit in head; Josh Hamilton on crutches
Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson appears to be fine after getting hit on the left side of his head while throwing batting practice to teammates at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Tuesday.
According to reports, Wilson was struck by a ball hit by catcher Yorvit Torrealba and was bleeding on the side of his head but walked off the field under his own power and was taken in for precautionary tests.
He tweeted later that he was OK, but Wilson's teammate Josh Hamilton wasn't as lucky after straining his left calf during a baserunning drill.
Hamilton is on crutches and has to stay off his feet for the next few days.
Everything is fine, except that pitch I threw. Shoulda caught it. Thanks for the #PMA - lesson is to not pitch to contact! Haha— C.J. Wilson (@str8edgeracer) February 25, 2014
Asked about his recovery, Hamilton says his status is up in the air.
"If you ask me in four to five days, I'll know better. But right now, I can't tell you. We have to get it to the point that the spasm releases, and we can reassess and evaluate it good."
Angels, meanwhile, will continue having their pitchers throw live batting practice this spring after opting out of the practice in 2013.
