Angels' Hamilton a late scratch with ankle injury
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton, whose offensive struggles have been a source of concern for the team all season, was a late scratch Monday night because of an injury to his right ankle.
Â
Manager Mike Scioscia said Hamilton’s ankle "locked up" on him at some point after Sunday’s game against the Oakland A’s. In a tweet, the Angels called it a "stiff right ankle."
Â
Hamilton is hitting .223 and has just one hit in his previous 23 at-bats and is batting .222 in July.
Â
Scioscia did not get specific about how the injury occurred, saying, "He wasn’t playing pickup basketball. He was walking around the house."
Â
He added, "There’s no question he needs the night off."
Â
Scioscia, however, left open the possibility that Hamilton might be available at some point against the Minnesota Twins, who opened a three-game series at Angel Stadium.
