Americans go 1-2 at speedskating World Cup

BERLIN (AP) Brittany Bowe led a 1-2 finish for the United States in the women's 1,000-meter race at a speedskating World Cup meet on Saturday.

Bowe covered the distance in 1 minute, 14.81 seconds to beat teammate Heather Richardson by .33 seconds. Li Qishi of China defended her overall World Cup lead in the event by finishing third, 1.13 seconds off the pace.

Germany had a 1-2 finish in the men's 1,000, with Nico Ihle edging Samuel Schwarz by .04 seconds. The winner's time was 1:09.49. Hein Otterspeer of the Netherlands was third.

Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands won the men's 5,000 in 6:17.59. Sverre Lunde Pedersen of Norway was 3.38 seconds behind in second and Douwe de Vries of the Netherlands was 5.91 adrift in third.
