Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome will not run in a warm-up race ahead of Royal Ascot as the American horse continues to recover from his appearance at the Dubai World Cup.

The 4-year-old colt was being lined up to race in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 16, before likely featuring in the Prince of Wales' Stakes at Ascot on June 17.

But Rae Guest, the trainer who is looking after California Chrome since the horse arrived in Britain after last month's Dubai World Cup, said the Lockinge will come too soon.

"It was a long journey to Dubai and then a long journey to here," Guest said, "and with all the time and climate changes, it's just taken him another week to get over it all.''
