American Pharoah's Triple Crown year to lead Eclipse Awards

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) American Pharoah and his connections are about to get one more celebration of their historic 2015.

The Triple Crown winner, along with owner-breeder Ahmed Zayat, jockey Victor Espinoza and trainer Bob Baffert are nominees for top honors in Saturday's Eclipse Awards.

American Pharoah became the sport's first Triple Crown winner since 1978, then won the Breeders' Cup Classic before being retired.

American Pharoah and his connections could win six of the 17 primary awards that will be handed out at Gulfstream Park. He's up for Horse of the Year and 3-year-old male honors.

The award winners are selected by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters.
