Copperas Cove (Texas) head coach Jack Welch thought he was making the safe play when he called for a squib kick in a game against A&M Consolidated on Friday. His team was leading 41-38 with one second left in the high school football matchup.

Unfortunately, Welch’s call backfired as the College Station-based A&M Consolidated squad channeled Cal-Stanford on the game’s final play to escape with a 44-41 win.

The excitement started with 3:39 left in the game, when Copperas Cove — the alma mater of one Robert Griffin III — tied the game 24-24 on a 5-yard touchdown pass.

Over the final few minutes, the teams combined for 37 more points, with A&M Consolidated shocking the crowd on this final play of the game:
