Alex McGough helps FIU tie program record with win over UMass

MIAMI (AP) -- Alex McGough passed for 296 yards and three touchdowns and added 108 rushing yards and another score, and FIU beat UMass 63-45 on Saturday to tie a program record for most wins in a season.

FIU (8-4), which also won eight games in 2011, set a program record with 674 total yards, topping 668 at Troy in 2010. The Golden Panthers gained 379 yards on the ground -- with six touchdowns -- for the third most rushing yards.

FIU scored on all seven trips to the red zone to set a program mark for points, besting a 55-point game in 2003.

Alex Gardner added 108 yards on the ground and two touchdowns for FIU. Napoleon Maxwell had 77 yards on 10 carries and two scores, and Bryce Singleton caught six passes for 111 yards and set a freshman record with three TDs.

McGough was 20-of-25 passing and carried it 11 times.

Andrew Ford completed 30 of 44 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns with one interception for UMass (4-5).
