Aldo's rib injury, McGregor's skills explained by 'Mortal Kombat'

Published Jul. 2, 2015 3:01 p.m. ET

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was scheduled to defend his belt against brash Irishman Conor McGregor at UFC 189 on July 11 in potentially one of the biggest fights in UFC history. But two weeks before the highly anticipated bout, Aldo was reportedly injured during practice, which drastically hurt his chances of entering the Octagon.

Word then came out from the UFC that Aldo only suffered cartilage damage and would be ready to go on fight night. The UFC secured former title challenger Chad Mendes as a contingency plan, in case Aldo still wasn't fit enough to fight.

This Tuesday, Aldo's camp revealed that the Brazilian's ribs actually were broken and that he'd be pulling out of the fight entirely.

Confused yet?

Well, no worries. The folks over at Noober Goober Gaming found a way to explain the situation in a way that we can all understand -- with throwback "Mortal Kombat" graphics.

I doubt either could handle me playing as Scorpion back in '95 (back, back, A all day!).

Find out how things really play out between McGregor and Mendes on Saturday, July 11, at UFC 189 in Las Vegas as the top featherweights battle it out for the interim featherweight belt.
