NEW YORK (AP) Ackeret rallied in the mud to beat odds-on favorite Majestic Affair by 2 1/4 lengths Sunday in the $100,000 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters at Aqueduct.
After racing wide in the early stages, Ackeret and jockey Jose Ortiz shifted inside for the stretch run and powered away from Majestic Affair, the 3-5 choice following stakes wins in his previous two races.
''The rail was open and I had a lot of horse,'' Ortiz said.
Ackeret, trained by Gustavo Rodriguez, improved to 3 for 5 with his first stakes victory. The time was 1:11.13 for the six furlongs.
