Editor’s note: As we count down to the start of the college football season, FOX Sports Carolinas ranks the game-day experience around the Atlantic Coast Conference. We unveil the top choice on Tuesday, Aug. 21. (item rankings are based on a scale of 1 through 10):

5 – Bobby Dodd Stadium, Georgia Tech (55,000)

Beauty (8): Love how the stadium sort of jumps out at you when walking up, as it’s tucked into a part of the campus. It has a classic look to it, though the one large upper deck needs some company.

Tailgating (5): This is one place where it’s okay to hit the local establishments before a game. Conventional tailgating isn’t impressive, but the other options make up for it some.

Buzz (5): The mascot may take exception to this, but Tech could use a better atmosphere. How to achieve that isn’t obvious, though improved tailgating to match the establishment scene could help some.

Fans (4): They just haven’t shown up as much in recent years. Playing in the heart of Atlanta doesn’t help,

History (10): This is the Wrigley Field of college football. When you can boast about four national championships and that John Heisman once coached there, plus the 222-0 thumping of Cumberland, you have a fantastic history.

Remark: If only bigger and rowdier, this would be one of the premier venues in the nation. Even still, all college football fans should make a trip here at least once.
