AB de Villiers out of Australia tests to have elbow surgery
JOHANNESBURG (AP) South Africa captain AB de Villiers will miss the test series in Australia to have surgery on a left elbow injury after a period of rest and rehabilitation failed to solve the problem.
South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee says Tuesday that De Villiers will have the surgery early next week, is expected to need around two months to recover, and will likely only return for Sri Lanka's tour to South Africa at the end of the year. Moosajee says surgery is the ''only long-term solution'' for the 32-year-old batsman.
De Villiers is also out of South Africa's five one-day internationals against Australia in South Africa, a series that starts Friday. But his absence for the three tests in Australia in November will be a bigger blow for the Proteas.
