A potential hit: Pete Rose to coach home opener for Gateway Grizzlies
ST. LOUIS -- It's not often you find a Cooperstown enshrinee coaching in the independent Frontier League. And you won't see one when the Gateway Grizzlies take on the Rockford Aviators on May 15, either.
But if Pete Rose's application to new Commissioner Rob Manfred for reinstatement to baseball gets approved, you'll see a potential future Hall of Famer, which could be just as neat.
That's right, MLB's all-time hits leader will coach first and third base during the Grizzlies' Frontier League home opener, the club has announced.
So, is it worth the gamble to see Rose?
For only $100, fans can purchase an all-inclusive package that includes the opportunity to meet and take photos with the Cincinnati Reds great. The ticket also admits fans to an upstairs party suite with an all-you-can-eat buffet.
And as a nightcap, there will be fireworks after the game.
About ready to go all-in, right? Well, according to the Grizzlies' Internet advertisements for the game, "It's gonna be a hit."
Bold claim. Can we bet on that?
