A little off base: The home stretch

BY foxsports • September 26, 2009

Some of your seasons are already over. I'm aware of this. I've been eliminated in some, am still alive in others, and have already chalked up a season win in another. Yeah, it ended earlier than it probably should have, but a win is a win is a win, right!?!

As we wind things down, I still wanna try to help those of you who have action left to be played. Most of you are likely roto players, but I know there are definitely some head-to-headers out there still as well. Let's see who may able to help us the rest of the way.

Mauer Purely One-Dimensional?

I've been a major Joe Mauer backer all season long, promoting his run for MVP, cheering what he's been able to do for the rep of fantasy catchers everywhere and applauding the fact he's done so in about 20 less games than most others. However, for as amazing as he's been this year, he seems to be focusing only on the batting average and nothing else lately. He was on 35-40 home run pace until the month of September hit. Even though he's hit a ridiculous .389 in 21 games this month, he's scored just nine times, driven in just nine runs and hit just two homers. And 20 of his 28 hits have been singles. Looks like .400's out of the question (at .371 now), so how 'bout buckin' up and producing some runs, Joe?! Do it for all of us!
