AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Four adults and two juveniles face charges in what investigators call one of the worst poaching cases Texas has ever seen.
A statement Wednesday from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says the six participated on what game wardens describe as ''a three-month-long outlaw road hunting rampage'' between June 4 and Aug. 29.The six face 175 state jail felony and Class A misdemeanor wildlife violations in the illegal killing of at least 68 white-tailed deer and numerous other wildlife and livestock across Leon County.
According to court documents, the group used various firearms, including a rifle fitted with a silencer, to shoot the animals from a motor vehicle on public roadways and private property without the landowners' consent.
Officials say the carnage went unreported until a Sept. 1 telephone call.
