MOSCOW (AP) An Olympic gold medalist facing doping claims has become the new head of the Russian bobsled federation.

Alexander Zubkov was alleged last month by the New York Times to be on a list of athletes who doped ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he won two gold medals.

The list, which has not been made public and cannot be independently verified, was provided by Grigory Rodchenkov, former head of Russia's anti-doping laboratory, the newspaper said. Zubkov has strongly denied any doping.

Russian state news agency Tass said Zubkov was elected by a 12-7 margin Thursday and plans to coach while he runs the federation.
