Vizer unopposed re-election as head of sports body
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Marius Vizer will be unopposed for re-election as president of SportAccord, the umbrella body for Olympic and non-Olympic international sports federations.
SportAccord says Monday that no candidates came forward to challenge Vizer by the deadline for nominations.
Vizer is in line to win a four-year term at the SportAccord general assembly in Sochi, Russia, on April 20.
Vizer, who is also president of the International Judo Federation, previously won election to a two-year term in 2013, succeeding Hein Verbruggen.
The Romanian-born Vizer says ''the work and the power of the international sports federations must be recognized.''
Vizer has proposed creating a ''United World Championship'' for international federations.
The idea is not endorsed by the IOC, which decided - for the first time - not to hold an executive board meeting during SportAccord.
