LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) USA Luge has decided to keep its headquarters in Lake Placid for at least the next five years, and will reap a minimum of $6 million in benefits.

The association considered bids from Lake Placid and Park City, Utah, before its board of directors voted unanimously Saturday to keep it based in the Adirondacks of upstate New York.

State officials said $5 million would support the creation of a new state-of-the-art start ramp facility, and another $1 million will be earmarked to support televised events and other marketing and promotion efforts.

USA Luge has been based in Lake Placid since the organization was formed in 1979. American sliders won a team-record 18 medals on the World Cup circuit last winter.
